The Brighton Festival is an annual arts and entertainment festival which has taken place in Brighton every May since 1967. It is England's largest multi art festival and in Britain is second only in size to the Edinburgh Festival. The Brighton Festival has an estimated attendance of over 300,000 people.
Theatre, dance, books and music all take over Brighton for three entire weeks with the 47th Festival scheduled to take place between Saturday 4th and Sunday 26th May 2013. There are lunchtime concerts and outdoor events.
The festival is chaired by Michael Rosen. In 2009 and 2010, the Festival had guest artistic directors Anish Kapoor and Brian Eno.
As well as the main arts festival, there is also the Fringe Festival, Artists Open House and the Brighton Festival Chorus.
