April 30th 2016 to May 1st 2016: Brighton Tattoo Convention 2016

For its 9th year running, the annual Brighton Tattoo Convention moves to the Brighton Centre, a venue in front of the sea and near the city center. The building is ready to welcome tattoo artists, collectors and enthusiasts from around the world. Over of 300 artists will be there, all are professionals mastering different techniques such as realism, black-work, traditional and many others. April 30th 2016 to May 29th 2016: Artists Open Houses Festival 2016

The largest event of its kind in the UK, the Artists Open Houses Festival 2016 will take place in Brighton, Hove and beyond over the five weekends of May, starting Saturday April 30th (Bank Holiday Weekend). Around 200 houses and studio spaces across the city open their doors to exhibit the work of over 1,500 artists and makers. Last year over 200,000 people visited the festival. Artists Open Houses offers the chance to buy artworks directly from the artists and makers themselves. There is a hugely diverse selection of artworks on show, from original paintings, prints, graffiti arts, ceramics and textiles to photography, sculpture, crafts, jewelry and many other media. May 1st 2016 : Opera Screening: Otello

The Ropetackle Arts Centre presents a special Glyndebourne style opera screening of Giuseppe Verdi’s Otello. Verdi’s late Shakespearean opera stands as one of the great masterpieces of grand opera. José Cura, one of the world’s leading interpreters of Verdi’s music, takes the title role in this profound and intense production, recorded live at the Liceu, Barcelona for Opus Arte. This special evening will also feature a short pre-performance talk and a free glass of bubbly. In true Glyndebourne style, spectators can bring their own interval picnic. May 8th 2016: Stonewall’s Brighton Equality Walk

Every year The Stonewall’s Equality Walk takes place in Brighton’s streets and seafront. Thousands of lesbian, gay, bi and transgendered individuals (LGBT) will walk to denunciate the situation of young LGBT people. Every year, lots of young people grow up feeling isolated and alone just because of who they are. Last year, more than 50 LGBT role models visited schools across the UK to share their personal stories with thousands of students and teachers. May 8th 2016: MG Regency Run

More than 300 MG’s will be gathered along Madeira Drive – from the 1920s to the present day, from the very classy to the nifty and sporty. May 11th 2016 to May 15th 2016: The Complete Deaths 

There are 74 onstage deaths in the works of William Shakespeare. This tribute to the famous writer is done for the 400th anniversary of his death. There are countless stabbings, plenty of severed heads, some poisonings, two mobbings and a smothering. Spymonkey is going to realize them in totality, all in a funny and hysterical atmosphere. May 12th 2016: The Nightingales and I Ludicrous

Formed by members of Birmingham’s original punk band The Prefects, The Nightingales enjoyed cult status in the 80s and were championed by John Peel. Re-grouped in 2004, they’re more productive than ever, releasing several albums, recording radio sessions & touring.

I, Ludicrous achieved immortality in 1987 when ‘Preposterous Tales’ reached number 11 in Peelie’s Festive 50. Their line-up since 2008 includes Martin Brett from Voice of The Beehive. May 14th 2016: “One Man, Two Guvnors” at Brighton Little Theatre

This delightful play is a West End/Broadway smash hit. Set in 1960s Brighton, the play focuses on Francis Henshall, an easily confused bat-man-come-butler who becomes separately employed by two men, Roscoe Crabbe, a local gangster and Stanley Stubbers, an upper class criminal. This is a recipe for near disaster for Francis, but a fine evening’s entertainment for you.

On the May 17th 2016: “Song Conversation, Song As A Place” with Laurie Anderson

By playing songs – their own and other’s – they will highlight, with talks and exchanges, the difficulties and intricacies of writing, faulty memory and interpretation.

In 2003 Lance Armstrong won his 5th Tour de France title, and a young boy in West Yorkshire believed in him. Akram Khan, one of the most respected figures in the dance world, returns to Brighton Festival eight years after his last show (Bahok) with his most arresting work to date. Joined by two of his company dancers and four musicians for the haunting vocals and soundscape, Khan combines the classical Indian dance form kathak, with contemporary dance. Until the Lions, tells the story of Amba a princess abducted on her wedding day and stripped of her honour, who invokes gods to seek revenge.

Funny Women come back to one of Brighton’s best and brightest comedy venue, Komedia. On the May 28th 2016: Adam Ant at Brighton Center

Adam Ant embarks on a 14 date UK tour in May 2016 and come to Brighton for a night. Performing the iconic album “Kings of the Wild Frontier” live and in sequence for the very first time, he will play many of the album tracks that have never been performed live. This follows last year’s phenomenal success of his debut “Dirk Wears White Sox” album tour. The 3x platinum Kings of the Wild Frontier album was originally released in 1980. It was sold over 8 million copies and it dominated the UK charts, spending more time in the top slot than any other album at the time and went on to achieve worldwide recognition and subsequent success.
